What is the difference between milk chocolate coating and chocolate chips?

I am going to make peanut clusters and don't have milk chocolate candy coating. Can I use just chocolate chips? Hi Joanne, I use chocolate chips for my peanut clusters and they taste great. Personally, for most recipes milk chocolate coating and chocolate chips or some other form of chocolate is all a matter of taste preference. I'm sure there are probably occasions when one is preferable over the other for other reasons, but I don't think you have to worry about it at all when making a candy recipe like peanut clusters.
