Starting My Own Chocolate Candy Business

by Amber

I am in the midst of starting my own handmade chocolate candy business.

I have some culinary school behind my belt, and a few cake decorating courses also. I have made chocolates in the past, but I am looking to grow and learn and hopefully make a name for myself.

I am looking for just some general tips, and maybe some secrets on the best way to go about this. I am going slow and taking my time with this because I want to succeed. So any tips, suggestions, secrets, anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Amber

Starting A Chocolate Candy Business Online
by: Angie

Hi Amber,

How exciting for you to be starting a handmade chocolate candy business. It's a lot of work, but if you love chocolate as much as I do, I'm sure it will be a lot of fun, too.

What type of chocolates are you planning to make and market? Do you want to build a website like mine to make it possible for people to order online?

If that's the direction you are heading, I can certainly recommend SBI as a site building program that is perfect for beginners. I never could have built Chocolate-Candy-Mall.com without SBI.

They take you through the whole process, step-by-step, so that you build a site that generates real targeted traffic from the search engines. Believe it or not, I get hundreds of visitors a day and I never pay for advertising. That's the power of SBI and that is exactly what you'll want if you hope to grow an online business.

As far as making the actual chocolate candy, you probably already have recipes in mind, etc. There are plenty listed here across the site that you could use for ideas, too.

If you want to start offline to get your feet wet, you could make up some of your handmade chocolates and package them nicely so the presentation is right. I'd recommend getting some cello bags and ties from Candyland Crafts and making up some cute labels.

Once you've got a sampling ready, try taking them around to some local businesses that have office staff or school staff rooms, the police station, etc. They may be willing to leave a tray there in the staff room and tempt everyone to buy. You may be a bit nervous to approach them at first, but just remember, the worst that can happen is that they say no. Not many people can resist chocolate!

Let me know how you progress and if you have any more questions.

Blessings,
Angie
