Oreo Truffles with Cream Cheese

by Linda
(CA)

I make Oreo truffles with cream cheese but wondered about being able to leave them out of the fridge.

Someone at a cake/candy decorating supply store told me that you can add powdered sugar and that it acts as a preservative and then they can be left unrefrigerated.

I want to know if that is true.
Thank you!!! ;)

Hi Linda,

That's a good question. I've used cream cheese and powdered sugar combos before, particularly for icings and fillings, but I've always kept the goodies in the fridge until the party.

I didn't have a problem with the mixture "going off" while sitting out for a few hours, but I don't really know what the shelf life would be for Oreo Truffles with cream cheese outside the fridge.

They do sound yummy right now, though! Mmmm. Show us a picture! ;-) Maybe someone else will be able to give you a more definite answer.

Blessings,
Angie

Oreo Truffles were fantastic! NEW
by: Angie

Just wanted to let you know that I did go ahead and make these delicious Oreo truffles with cream cheese that you were talking about.

My goodness were they simple and delicious! Absolutely loved them. I made them a couple of times over the holidays and they were a big hit.

If anyone else wants to give them a try, here's the recipe for Oreo truffles. You'll love them!

As for storing them, I kept mine in the fridge till just before serving/eating. I think they'd be fine left out for a few hours as I suspected, but I think if you're planning on using them days later, you should definitely keep them refrigerated.

You can even freeze the Oreo truffles if you need to keep them for a longer period of time.
