Mug Cakes

I can't believe I just learned about Mug Cakes! Where in the world have I been and why has everyone been holding out on me? :)

Who would have thought it would be so easy create a quick cake in a mug in just minutes - and that it would be delicious too?

This photo was my very first attempt at making a cake in a mug and I can't believe how simple this sweet treat is to produce.

I got the idea when one of our readers posted this 5 minute carob cake recipe. The lightbulb went on and I had to give it a try within hours of receiving the idea.

Yes, the promise of chocolate gets me motivated and moving! :)

All you need is a coffee mug and some basic ingredients that almost everyone has on hand in their pantry - (perfect for a quick dessert or afternoon tea when someone pops by unexpectedly).

REALLY, it's as simple as stirring together a few tablespoons of flour, sugar, cocoa, oil, milk, and egg, along with a dash of salt and vanilla. Pop it into the microwave for 3 minutes and voila!

For step-by-step photos and detailed instructions on just how to do it, here's my cake in a mug recipe. I chose to make chocolate for my first attempt, but I can't help but think about how easy it would be to make a cinnamon coffee cake, apple cake, maple cake, brownies, banana cake, pumpkin cake, etc.

Help me experiment and come up with a whole range of cake in a mug microwave recipes in all different flavors! I'm sure no one in your family will complain about eating your mug cake creations, even if they're flops. ;)

I particularly love the fact that it takes such a small amount of ingredients to make a cake in a mug for two reasons.

You're not going to end up with a huge amount of excess cake that will eventually end up on your hips.
You can experiment for just a few cents each time and come up with your own perfect combos and flavors.
