How To Add Color To White Chocolate Wafers??

by Marisol
(Phoenix)

Can you tell me how to add color to white chocolate wafers?

I was trying to create red color chocolate for a rose. When I added the color to white chocolate, it started getting hard where I couldn't even blend it.

It turned hard and wasn't able to blend into molds. Is there something I did wrong, or is it just best to buy the chocolate already colored??

Thanks!

Hi Marisol,

Did you just use red food coloring to try to color the white chocolate? The base of regular food coloring is water. Water makes chocolate seize up, so that would be why your white chocolate got all stiff.

It IS probably easier to buy the colored chocolate melts. You can get them at Candyland Crafts.

But, you can also color white chocolate like you are trying to do. You just need to use the right kind of oil based candy coloring.

I'd love to see your chocolate roses when you get them done to perfection. :-) You can show them off to us here. Can't wait!

Have fun!
Angie

Adding Color To White Chocolate

Hi Becca,

I don't think the gel food coloring is what you'd want to use. I'm pretty sure that it is also water based.

You really need an oil based color so that it mixes in the white chocolate without causing the chocolate to seize up.

Look at the candy coloring at Candyland Crafts to get an idea of what I am talking about.

Candy coloring is not the same as coloring for icing/frosting. :)

Hope that helps.
