How Many Lbs Of Candy Melts?

by Debra Q
(Lakeville, PA)

I need help determining how many lbs of candy melts I will need.

I need to make 150 chocolate scallop shells for a friend's wedding. My mold has six cavities, each measuring about 2 1/2" X 2 1/2".

Does anyone out there know how many lbs. of chocolate candy melts I will need to make them? I'd like to have some clue so that I can order correctly.

Thanks so much!

Hi Debra,

I can't be exact, but I would estimate that your molds are probably going to hold about 1 ounce of chocolate each. If you already have the mold, why not fill it with water and then pour it in a measuring cup to test my theory. :)

If you don't have the mold yet, perhaps you can check for the information from the mold supplier or on the packaging before ordering your chocolate melts.

If my guess is correct, that means you are going to need 150 ounces of candy melts to make 150 candy shells. Since there are 16 ounces in a pound, you'll need nearly 10 pounds to make enough chocolate shells for the wedding.

I'd actually grab an extra pound or two myself in case you aren't completely satisfied with the finished appearance of some of the shells. You can always keep those for yourself and still have enough for the big event. ;)

When you get your wedding favors all finished, please do take some photos and add them to our party favor page. You can write a tribute and congratulatory note to your friends as well to commemorate their special day.

Blessings,
Angie
