How long does chocolate fudge stay fresh?

by Marie Claire
(CA)

Hi,

How long does chocolate fudge stay fresh?

I need to make around 200 pieces of chocolate fudge for my baby shower. I will wrap each with foil. Do you think it can last up to 3 months?

Thank you,
MC

Answer:

Chocolate fudge can stay fresh for a good while if you freeze it. It should be fine for 3 months. I have to admit fudge never lasts that long around here, even in the freezer, because I can't keep my hands (mouth) off of it! :-)

You may want to consider freezing it whole and then slicing and wrapping it near the day of your shower.

Either way, be sure that you wrap the fudge well to keep out as much moisture as possible. For that length of time, I'd be tempted to wrap the package in newspaper or a towel for added protection.

When it's time to thaw it, allow it to thaw while still in the wrapping.

Hope your shower is lots of fun. Congratulations on the upcoming baby. What a blessing!

Storing Fudge
by: Angie

If you don't want to freeze the fudge, it will still keep for a few weeks at least if it is refrigerated.

There may be some exceptions depending on the type of fudge, but the most important thing is to be sure that the container is airtight. Otherwise, your fudge will absorb smells from other foods in the refrigerator and will taste funny.

fudge in the fridge

fudge should never be stored in a refrigerator. the refrigerator will begin sucking the moisture out as soon as you put it in the fridge. you will end up with dry, crumbly fudge! freezing is your best option

To Fridge or Not To Fridge? :)
by: Angie

It must depend on the type of fudge. I almost always put my fudge in the refrigerator because I live in the tropics.

I freeze some and fridge some. I've never had any trouble with it going dry and crumbly. Of course, I do keep it covered and it doesn't really last that long anyway because we can't keep our mitts off it! :)

But, if you've had bad experience fridging fudge, by all means freeze, freeze, freeze!
