Homemade Mother's Day Gifts

There's nothing more special than the time and love that goes into Homemade Mothers Day gifts.

Sometimes searching for Mothers Day gift ideas can be a bit daunting. It can be difficult to think of something that you know your mom would love.

I have a simple gift that has many different variations so it is easy to use this Mothers Day gift idea every year.

You simply make it a little different each time to make it uniquely special for every occasion. I'm talking about a Mother's Day Gift Basket!

I got this idea a number of years ago after I received a basket of baked goods for my birthday.

I thought to myself, "Why not put everything in a basket?"

This Mother's Day gift idea works really well because Mother's Day is so close after Easter and you can take advantage of the "after Easter sales" to find wicker baskets on sale. So, if you're on a budget you're already off to a great start!

To begin on this Mother's Day project, start by thinking of a theme for your basket.

I've made food, baked goods, homemade candies, flowers, and everything else you can think of, but my favorite gift basket by far was the stress relief basket.

My mother works very hard all week and on the weekends she tends to our very large family by cooking dinners and hosting get-togethers. To her, there is nothing more important than being around the ones you love.

Like most moms, she always tends to everyone else's needs before her own, so I thought there was no better way to help her relax.

How To Make A...

Homemade Mothers Day Gift Baskets
  1. To start preparing this particular "Stress Relief Gift Basket," I picked out a large dark brown basket (I picked one that I knew would go with her bathroom because I wanted her to get long term use out of it!).

  2. I have a ton of tissue paper lying around my house from holidays and left overs from crafts, so I felt that would be a great base. I shredded the tissue paper into strips and fluffed them up on the bottom of the basket.

  3. My grandmother is a terrific candle maker so I had her help me with this gift and she came through! She made a beautiful lavender candle which was my center piece in the basket.

  4. I made a batch of mini raspberry cookies which are her favorite and placed them in little baggies and then into the basket.

  5. Next I bought a plain coffee mug at my local craft store and painted it myself with the word "Relax" on the front. On the back I painted little inspirational sayings for her like, "take time," "sleep," and "rest.

  6. Inside the cup, I included some of my favorite teas, ones that specifically are made for stress relief, like chamomile, peppermint, lemon balm, and green teas.

  7. My favorite part of the basket was the "homemade book" I made. I searched the internet and printed out a collection on restful stretches and stress relief techniques. I bound them together using a simple hole punch and some ribbon and popped it in the basket.

  8. To top the whole thing off, I made my mother a homemade Mothers Day card using some scrapbook paper and added one of her favorite poems.

In the end I had a beautiful homemade Mothers Day gift project that showed her just how much she means to me.

I not only wanted to give her something I made with love but something to show her that she deserves some time off to herself.

Baskets are simple homemade Mothers Day Gifts that can be a reflection of what you want your mother to know. There are so many variations of what you can do so that possibilities are endless.

Think about what your mother enjoys most (and perhaps doesn't get to enjoy often enough). Your theme might revolve around gardening, baking, reading, coffee, puzzles, chocolate, fashion, etc.

Above all add your own personal touch so your mom knows just how special she is!
