Cobweb Cupcakes

Do you have a favorite cupcake recipe? Turn it into these adorable cobweb cupcakes.

Even if you just use a boxed cake mix, you can create this Halloween dessert with hardly any time and trouble at all.

You'll need:

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Frosting:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk

Glaze:
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 4 teaspoons shortening

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line muffin pan with paper cupcake holders.

  2. Beat together the sugar and 1/4 cup butter. Add eggs and blend until creamy. Add sour cream, vanilla, and milk and combine well. Add remaining cupcake ingredients and beat until well mixed.

  3. Fill each cupcake holder about 2/3 full. Bake for 20-25 or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center. Cool.

  4. Prepare the frosting by combining the powdered sugar and 1/4 cup of butter and beating at low speed. Gradually beat in the milk until you get the consistency you want for spreading.

  5. Prepare chocolate glaze by heating the chocolate chips and shortening in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time and stirring at each interval until smooth. Place in a resealable bag and snip one corner to make a piping bag.

  6. Frost the cupcakes with the white frosting and then draw a spiral swirl with the chocolate glaze starting at the center and working your way out to the edge. Only do a couple at a time so it doesn't set before you do the next step.

  7. Immediately take a toothpick or skewer and score the frosting from the center to the edge in a dragging motion to create the spiderweb cupcakes design.

Extra Fun Tip 1: You can use the remaining chocolate to draw little spiders to place on the web. On a piece of waxed paper squeeze a little glob for the body and eight legs, four on each side. Let it harden and place them gently on the cupcakes for special effects!

Extra Fun Tip 2: You can use the same recipe (or a simple box mix and canned frosting) to create these spooky eyeball cupcakes, too.

Add a round candy for the iris and a small black jelly bean (or some dark chocolate) for the pupil. Use some red food coloring added to the white frosting and pipe some blood vessels to make the eyeballs look bloodshot.

Ghosts In The Graveyard Halloween Dessert

This pudding recipe is really delicious. If you've never tried it before it's one I highly recommend. Here's a video provided by Taste of Home (my favorite recipe magazine) to explain the details.

If you'd like to subscribe to Taste of Home or any other favorite magazine, you can get great prices at Magazines.com. They make great gifts, too.
