Edible Dowel Rods

I need info on edible dowel rods to use on my cake for the sail mast of the boat.

Thank you for your help,
Rex

Hi Rex,

I'm not sure if I've ever seen an edible dowel rod, although I think it's a great idea. If you can't find one, maybe you could improvise.

Could you coat a wooden dowel rod with icing?

If the pole absolutely has to be edible, you may be able to find a long candy stick or make your own out of a very stiff fondant or stiff caramel. You could get some at Candyland Crafts

You could even make a boiled hard candy mixture and use food coloring to get the color you need. Then roll it quickly into a long thin pole the size you need while the candy is still hot (just be sure to butter your hands so you don't burn them).

Will any of those suggestions work for you?

I would dearly love to see this cake when you are finished!!! Would you please take a few photos and upload them to the site using the Q&A form? That would be fantastic!
