Dark Chocolate Truffles
A Decadent Delight

gourmet dark chocolate trufflesThe rich taste of dark chocolate truffles is a satisfying reward for any occasion of life.

As a child, I recall just the phrase "chocolate truffles" made me think of rich people that could spoil themselves with whatever they liked. :)

Oh, the fantasies of youth! Maybe only the rich can indulge regularly, but surely most of us can treat ourselves or a loved one occasionally with a gourmet selection of mouthwatering truffles from some place like zChocolat.com or RICHART: Gourmet French Chocolate.

Don't worry, if they are completely out of your league at ALL times, or if you just want to do-it-yourself, you can prepare your own truffles with this recipe so you can nibble as you go.

Dark Chocolate Truffle Recipe

dark chocolate truffles
  • 1 2/3 cups dark chocolate, chips or pieces
  • 6 tablespoons whipping cream (reduce to 1/4 c. if adding liqueur)
  • 1 tablespoon cold butter or margarine, cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts, toffee, powdered sugar, or cocoa powder

Place chocolate in a bowl and set aside. Heat whipping cream over medium heat until steaming, stirring constantly. Pour over chocolate and let set covered for 5 minutes.

Uncover and mix well until smooth. Add butter and vanilla and stir through.

Chill for about 1-2 hours until firm enough to form into balls. Form 1" balls and roll in desired topping.

What could be easier, except, of course, ordering them online? :)

If you really want to go all out, prepare some tempered chocolate and dip the balls in that to form a nice firm chocolate shell. You can still sprinkle them with nuts, etc., before the chocolate sets.

Enjoy! But don't get carried away and make yourself sick. Oh, there I go talking to myself again - oops!
