Dark Chocolate Health Benefits

dark chocolate candyThe dark chocolate health benefits have been officially declared by "those in the know." I admit that I would probably continue enjoying dark chocolate even if researchers had discovered that chocolate is bad for you. I don't know if I could have helped myself. I love the stuff!

It's really nice to have the "experts" decide that I can enjoy myself without feeling guilty about it afterward. :)

Specific Health Benefits

  1. Seriously, dark chocolate is a great source of energy because it actually is low GI (Glycemic Index). Its GI rating is said to be 22. Basically, that just means that instead of getting a sugar rush when you eat dark chocolate, it releases slowly into the bloodstream keeping your insulin level much more stable and providing you with sustained energy over a longer period of time.

  2. Other dark chocolate health benefits are the number of vitamins and minerals contained in chocolate that our bodies need to maintain good health. Dark chocolate is rich in magnesium and iron, along with calcium and potassium. Chocolate also contains antioxidants like Vitamins A, C, D, E, and even B1.

  3. The different chemicals in chocolate stimulate proper blood flow, which lowers blood pressure and reduces the risks of heart disease. Some reports even suggest that chocolate can reduce the risk of developing cancer!

That's good enough for me. The next time I want a dark chocolate fix, I'll just say, "I've got to look after my health." :)

Truthfully, we must not get carried away with the wonderful news of the dark chocolate health benefits. We don't want to be unbalanced in any area of our life, so, don't binge. I know it's tempting, but it will only make you sorry later when you jump up on the scale.

We want to enjoy this wonderful life that God has given us, including the pleasures of chocolate candy, but we still need a bit of self control. Remind me of that the next time I get a little crazy over chocolate! :)
