Color White Chocolate With Food Coloring?

Can I colour white chocolate with food colouring?

I am just learning to make candy so, sorry, no tips yet. :-)

Thanks.

Hi Shannon,

Yes, you can color white chocolate with food coloring. It's best not to use coloring that is water based, though.

Chocolate does not like water and you may have a problem with it seizing up and becoming unmanageable.

I recommend the Wilton candy colors at Candyland Crafts for this job. They are oil based and made specifically for tinting chocolate.

You can get a 4 pack of different colors for only $3.99 which I think is a pretty good price. It only takes a little, so use it sparingly. You can always add another drop if you want a richer or brighter colour.

I hope you'll come back and show us what you made when you're done! Don't worry about being new to candy making. We all started at the beginning. :-)

I'm sure you'll pick up a few tips to share along the way, too.

Have fun!
Angie

You have helped with halloween NEW
by: Robert

I make Buck's eyes every year for my friends annual halloween party and I wanted to make the eyes look like veins on them but haven't been able to color the white chocolate but now I know how and have ordered the color for them this year. I make regular buckeyes but instead of brown chocolate I dip the balls in white chocolate making sure they are fully covered and then put a M&M on the top and it looks like a eyeball. then I put the sign Buck's Eyes on the tray and everyone gets a kick out of it. But I always wanted to make some red veins on them now I can thanks to you.
Robert.

Thank you for the information. I am making chocolate covered stawberries to top cupcakes for a wedding rehearsal dinner. I want to stripe the strawberries with white chocolate in the wedding colors. I will use wiltons colors.

Hi Sam,

Sorry about that. Candyland Crafts made a slight change in their link structure recently and I haven't had a chance to "fix" all the links on this site yet. :(

I DID fix the link above, so now you can go over and take a look at their Wilton Candy Colors.
