Chocolate Separates from Other Ingredients

by Sandy

We were making a chocolate sauce with sugar, cornstarch, whipping cream, chocolate morsels, egg yolk. Forgot to temper the egg------------ did not add ingredients in order of recipe. Dah!!!!!!!

Cooked on stove top until it thickened. The chocolate chips (melted) have separated from the others ingredients.

There is clear liquid floating on top of the sauce. Is there a way to correct this------ short of dumping and starting over?

Hi Sandy,

I'm afraid I don't know an exact answer for this question. It would be great if you could add the recipe and instructions here so that we can get a better idea of the proper method.

As far as salvaging the chocolate sauce, you may be able to let it cool down and then stir it through reheating it slowly. It may not work, but it's worth a shot.

Sometimes our mistakes may not turn out as the recipe intended, but it can still be pretty yummy when one of the main ingredients is chocolate!

Let us know what happens. If anyone else has any experience with this, I'm sure Sandy would appreciate your input.
