There are a few places that I discovered where you can order chocolate covered apricots. They are a bit different then those pictured that are simply dipped in melted chocolate.

If you'd like to give them a try, you will find them at Salsa Express and also at Harry and David. These chocolate dipped apricots are basically dried apricots smothered in chocolate, and then covered with a thin candy shell coating.

If you are looking to get something like this for party favors, you can buy them in bulk at Candy Direct.

Chocolate apricots are very easy to make for yourself. Follow this simple recipe and you will be pleased with the tasty treat you create.

Chocolate Dipped Apricot Recipe

Ingredients Needed:

  • 12 ounces bittersweet or white chocolate, chopped
  • 50 large dried apricot halves

Line 2 cookie sheets with waxed paper. Melt and temper the chocolate.

Pinch the end of an apricot half between your fingers and dip halfway into the chocolate. Gently shake of excess chocolate and place on waxed paper to set. Repeat with all the fruit. Allow to set at room temperature or chill for 15 minutes in the fridge.

Dipped apricots are best eaten at room temperature. They can be stored in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks in a well wrapped airtight container between layers of waxed paper.

Candy Making Tip: Your candy will only be as fine as your ingredients. Be sure to use apricots that have a sweet, delicious taste. Consider buying a better quality of chocolate than your basic chocolate chips. It is worth the extra effort for the exquisite results. You can get basic chocolate for candy making at Candyland Crafts or get the really good stuff at the Chocolate Source.

Variations:
Try substituting dried peaches or pears for the apricots. It would make a lovely platter if you dip some of each fruit and serve along with a mixture of nuts. Yummm!
