Chocolate Covered Apple Recipe

  • 6 medium apples
  • 6 wooden skewers or ice cream sticks
  • 1 7oz. milk chocolate bar broken into pieces
  • 1 T. shortening

Cover a tray with wax paper. Wash and dry apples. Insert a stick into the stem end of each apple.

Place chocolate and shortening into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on medium heat for 1-2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. Do not overheat! The chocolate is ready when it is completely melted and smooth. Of course, you can always use a double boiler to melt the chocolate if you prefer.

If you would like to dress up your chocolate apples with special toppings, have them ready to sprinkle on as soon as you are done coating the apples.

Some great ideas for toppings are coconut, crushed nuts, sprinkles, mini M&M's, or crushed candy canes.

You could also drizzle a contrasting chocolate over the top for added decoration. Let your imagination soar!

You will find the wooden skewers, a selection of chocolate for melting and a variety of sprinkle toppings at Candyland Crafts. They even have little cellophane favor bags if you want to individually wrap them for gifts or party favors. Have fun!
