Chocolate Covered Apple Cracked

I have tried to dip apples in chocolate and upon removing them from the refrigerator, I noticed a slight crack in the apple.

Any advice? The crack happened prior to even cutting the apples.

Hi Candy Maker,

I suspect the problem with the chocolate cracking on your apples is the result of the change in temperature when you put them in the refrigerator to set.

Are you able to allow them to set at room temperature instead? You would have less shrinkage that way and shouldn't have problems with cracking.

Out of curiosity, are you only dipping the apples in chocolate without dipping them in caramel first? If not, it may also help to try that to improve your chances if you do have to put them in the fridge for setting.

Blessings,
Angie

I'd say you'd have at least a couple of weeks at room temperature. It really depends on the freshness of the apples.

If the apples would keep at room temperature for a few weeks, so should the chocolate covered apples. :)

The chocolate cracked when I dipped it in chocolate and it also cracked when I dipped it in caramel first. If I dip it and let it set at room temperature, do you know how long the apples can stay at room temperature safely before consuming? Thanks!
