Carob In Place Of Chocolate

by Heena

Is it possible to use carob in place of chocolate?

I was wondering if we can do the same things with carob as with chocolate. eg. melt the carob chips and use it as a dip for some candy's, or melt the carob chips and put it in chocolate molds. because I have lot of carob chips.

Hi Heena,

Yes, you can use carob in place of chocolate in most recipes. Of course it isn't going to taste the same as chocolate. :) But if you enjoy the taste of carob, it's a great substitute.

Some people have commented that they have a little more difficulty in working with or handling carob chips when melting, etc., compared to chocolate chips, but with a little practice, you should be fine.

You can read through the carob recipes and other comments in our carob section to pick up some additional tips.

Have fun!

Carob, a nice alternative to chocolate. NEW
by: Kim

I have not had chocolate for 30 years due to allergies & each Christmas I make no bake cookies with carob, the taste is a little different but a nice substitute for Chocolate. It melts ok just does not harden like chocolate, it is a little softer.
