Candy Christmas Ornaments
Candy Christmas ornaments are a fun and creative activity to make with your kids. They really are simple, so everyone can be involved in adding their own personal touch to your Christmas decorations.
If you prefer the element of surprise, you can prepare the Christmas candy ornament yourself and watch the faces of your children when they wake up and discover them on Christmas morning.
Either way, they are sure to be a big hit and maybe even a tradition your family will repeat year after year.
Popcorn Ball Candy Christmas OrnamentsI discovered these popcorn candy MandM Christmas ornaments at Family Fun (their photo). They always have such clever projects all throughout the year. I enjoy giving a subscription to the Family Fun magazine to the mom's with young children in my family. It's a great inexpensive gift they can enjoy all year.
If you'd like to treat someone, too, the best prices I've found were at Magazines.com.
Okay, here's the "recipe" instructions:
Items Needed:- Small Popcorn Balls (one for each person if making them as a group or at a party)
- Mini candy canes (one per popcorn ball)
- colored sugar
- M & M's
- White or Christmas colored frosting (make your own or use a container of pre-made frosting)
- Poke a small hole in the top of each popcorn ball. Poke the mini candy cane into the hole up to the loop. You may want to snap the ends off the candy canes to make the tip more pointy.
- Pour the colored sugars onto paper plates. Each plate gets a separate color.
- Place the frosting into a pastry bag, or use a plastic ziploc bag and cut the corner off to create a pastry bag.
- Pipe thick dots or lines on the popcorn ball with the frosting. Gently dip the popcorn ball into the colored sugars just so the frosting touches it and picks up the sugars. It's best to work on these dots and lines one at a time.
- Pipe small dots of frosting on the popcorn ball and stick the M&M's to them.
You can string a ribbon through the candy cane loop to hang these candy Christmas ornaments right on your tree.
