Australian chocolate lollies took a little getting used to for me when I first arrived on these shores over 15 years ago, but I've been converted!
I have to admit that I grew up on, and loved, American Hershey chocolate (especially Kisses!), and Reese's peanut butter cups - Yum!!!
I can't even remember the name of the first chocolate lollies in Australia that I tried, but I do remember thinking, "Ewww! That's not very nice!" :) I laugh now, looking back, because there are some really delish chocolate candy sellers in Australia.
I think my "conversion" to Australian chocolate lollies began the first time I discovered Cadbury chocolate bars.
I suppose Cadbury is traditionally British, but it is also one of the
most popular chocolate candy sellers in Australia, so it was inevitable
that we would meet and develop a lasting relationship. (Grin!)
The Cadbury simple Dairy Milk chocolate is very good, but I love the Caramello (ooey-gooey caramel covered in milk chocolate) and the Breakaway (which is similar to a Kit-Kat, if you know what that is).
When I'm trying to be especially "good" I opt for the dark chocolate instead. The Old Gold is really yum and I surprised myself by even really enjoying the Old Jamaica Rum 'N' Raisin. I'm getting cravings just writing this!
Of course, the Cadbury chocolate options are my personal favorites, but Cadbury makes a whole range of candy/lollies including...
...to name a few.
Ferrero Rocher is another of the popular chocolate lollies in Australia. Interestingly enough, my first taste of those delectable little truffles left me unimpressed, but I was eventually won over. Maybe it just takes me a little time to embrace a new chocolate fully.
Having said that, with Lindt truffles, I needed no convincing. My first mouthful sent me straight to chocolate heaven! That's always a danger sign because I easily become addicted. :)
Of course, if you
live in Australia, you can get gourmet chocolates imported from
overseas, but why bother when you can get top quality chocolate lollies
in Australia to rival the world's finest?
Australia has quite a collection of sumptuous chocolates for you to drool over as
you select your favorites, or pick out a lovely gift for a friend or loved
one. But, just in case you can't find what you're looking for locally, here's a small selection of a few of my favorites.
